Phase 1
I reviewed my illustrations & realized that Lucifer needs a nemesis of some sort. So, it's only the natural order of things that I'll be working on Archangel Michael.
Inspired by a striking Yoshitaka Amano sketch of Vampire Hunter D in flight, I borrowed this foreshortened angle/pose. |
Phase 2
Modified the legs - the previous one looked slightly feminine for me.
Defined Michael's overall built. |
Phase 3
Added hair, skirts.
Modified hands - the thumbs ought to be leading, not the little fingers. |
Phase 4
Added wing - just one side for now (it'll be easy to mirror the wing on the other side later).
Added sword. |
Phase 5
Outlined in ink.
Mirrored other wing.
Added background. |
Phase 6
Rendered hair, head & body. |
Phase 7
Rendered skirt & sword. |
Phase 8
Blocked-in parts of background. |
Phase 9
Rendered wings. Notice that the insides of the wings are shadowed - this gives the illusion of having the tips of the wings folded-over. |
Phase 10
Rendered upper-left background. I used points in different weights to express fading light/shadow then horizontal lines to create variety among shafts of light. |
Phase 11
Rendered the rest of the background. Again, I used points in different weights.
Added a few stars around with white ink. |
