Phase 1
I was looking forward to drawing Loki's face. I had it all planned in my mind even as I was drawing Thor! So, composing his face only took a minute.
The pose, however, was another story. I tried about 3 poses before finally deciding on this one! |
Phase 2
Added costume & accessories.
Loki can never really be without horns, can he? Other notable additions to his get-up: I gave him a braid, a tough looking wand & fur-lined boots. |
Phase 3
I built background effects around Loki's figure. I’m trying out a tilted bird’s eye view to make the overall picture interesting & dynamic.
In Norse Mythology, we all know Loki as the instigator of discord; He’s always in the midst of chaos.
Whenever I encounter the word “chaos”, an image of a full-blown storm & crashing waves almost immediately come to my mind. So, I illustrated Loki on a pillar, enveloped by raging waves of - not water, but active plasma! |
Phase 4
Outlined in ink! |
Phase 5
Rendered pillar by adding cracks & shadows
Blocked-in reverse side of cloak
Shaded hair & flesh |
Phase 6
Rendered costume (except cloak) & wand
I'm experimenting with blacks on shiny metal surfaces - I'm using Philippe Druillet's shadow & highlight techniques as reference! |
Phase 7
Shaded-in Loki's cloak & the waves splashing around him - That's easier said than done! It took 5 hours tops to shade them both! |
Phase 8
Blocked-in background except the spheres around Loki's wand & hand, where I used points/dots.
Finished! |
