Work in Progress: Lucifer in Chains
(View Phase 7) Shaded in the face, beginning with the eyes & then went all out with the feathers. Feathers are easy to render but they take up a lot of time.
(View Phase 6) Haaa... finally finished inking the outlines. It took me 2 straight hours (what's with that?)! It doesn't usually take me this long. Lines are clean & nothing of the original sketch has been altered much.
(View Phase 5) How's this? Well, it's good enough for me.
(View Phase 4) Now Lucifer's chained & shackled on the wrists & neck. I foreshortened the chains to create the illusion of them coming out from the sky. I might eliminate the chain on the neck. Three strands look too busy & heavy. They draw too much attention.
(View Phase 3) Other wing is done. I've altered the hair to show most of his forehead. As for the background, I decided to go with ice. Most of the drawing looks solid already. I'll be adding the chains & shackles next.
(View Phase 2) Is the hair an improvement? I think I have to sleep on it. I've eliminated the skeletal frame of the wings because when combined with feathers, the wing would only make him look angelic.
(View Phase 1) So far, so good. It's been a while since I foreshortened legs so it was a bit of a challenge! Now, there ought to be gothic chains & shackles so I would have to do a bit of research to choose just the right kind (I'm going to look at some Walter Crane engravings). The hair - should it be curly or straight? The background - should it be a dry rocky desert or a fortress of ice?
